സാമൂഹ്യ-സാംസ്കാരികചരിത്രം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകള്‍ക്കുമുന്‍പ് ചിറ്റിലപ്പള്ളി ആസ്ഥാനമായി നാടുവാണിരുന്ന തലപ്പിള്ളിരാജവംശത്തിന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന്‍ കീഴിലായിരുന്നു തോളൂര്‍ പഞ്ചായത്തുപ്രദേശം. പിന്നീട് മണക്കുളം, കക്കാട്, പുന്നത്തൂര്‍, ചിറളയം എന്നീ നാലു താവഴികളിലായി പിരിഞ്ഞതില്‍ പുന്നത്തൂരിന്റെ അധീനതയിലായിരുന്നു ഈ പ്രദേശം. ബ്രാഹ്മണരുടെയും നാടുവാഴികളുടെയും ജന്മികളുടെയും ഭരണവ്യവസ്ഥ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കാലത്തിന്റെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളായക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും കുളങ്ങളും ഒരു വള്ളക്കടവും ഇവിടെ ഇപ്പോഴുമുണ്ട്.ടിപ്പുവിന്റെ പടയോട്ടക്കാലത്ത് പുന്നത്തൂര്‍ കോട്ട തകര്‍ന്നെങ്കിലും പുന്നത്തൂരിന്റെ അധീശത്വമുള്ള വഴിയില്‍ ശേഖവന്‍കാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം ഇന്നും നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു. തൃശ്ശൂരിലെ തിരുവമ്പാടി ക്ഷേത്രം ആദ്യകാലത്ത് തോളൂര്‍ ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിലെ എടക്കളത്തൂരില്‍ ആയിരുന്നുവെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.  ക്ഷേത്രാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളും വിസ്തൃതമായ ക്ഷേത്രകുളവും ഇന്നും ഉണ്ട്. കണ്ണന്‍ചിറ എന്നത് ലോപിച്ച് കണ്ടന്‍ചിറ എന്ന പേരിലാണ് കുളം ഇന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. കേരളത്തിലെ ആദിബ്രാഹ്മണരെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന ആഴുവാഞ്ചേരിക്കാരുടെ ഊരായ്മക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളാണ് തോളൂര്‍ വിഷ്ണ...
